The Giraffe found in the dry savannah and open woodland areas of Africa, south of the Sahara, is said to be the tallest mammal in the world, according to The Guinness Book of World Records, 2009.
Mature males grow to a height of 18 feet, and to reach down to drink they have to splay their forelegs and bend their knees.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
The record-sized bull giraffe, shot in Kenya in 1934, was 5.87m tall and weighed approximately 2000 kg. Female are generally slightly shorter, ad weigh less than the males do.
