Heli-Skiing occupies a pride of place in adventure sports and winter sports. Under a deep blue sky you are carried by helicopter to a high snow-draped peak. It is a thrilling experience as you zoom down the slopes at a breakneck speed.
Heli-Skiing was introduced in Himachal Pradesh in February 1990 when the Everest Climber Rody Mackenzie of Australia brought the first heli-skiing group to the upper reaches of the Himalayan Valley. Today, with Manali as its focal point, Himachal draws a lot of lovers of adventure sports and tourism. A sortie of ten minutes’ duration can carry the skier to the top of 14,000 feet high slope. While the area bound by Hanuman Tibba, Rohtang Pass, Deo Tibba and Chanderkhani Pass still from the core, fresh areas have been identified as suitable for the sport.
