India is a land of heroes and heroines, saints and mahatma and politicians and guides. India is the only land which has given birth to the greatest number of saints. Lok Nayak Jayaprakash was one of them. He stand in the rank of Mahatma Gandhi and Sant Vinoba Bhave.
His Birth And Education :
Shri Jayaprakash Narayan was born on October 11, 1902 in Sitabdiara Village of Chhapra District in Bihar. He was the son of Shri Harsood Lal and Smt. Phool Rani. The day on which he was born was Vijai Dashmi – a day which is celebrated as victory day all over India. His victory over Congress was celebrated with pomp and show in Northern India if not in South India. He started his education in his village. He passed Matriculation Examination in 1919 at Patna. He joined famous college to continue his education but had to sop his studies because he plunged devotedly in Freedom Struggle. Again to receive his education he went to San-Francisco in 1992. There he did graduation with the money he earned with the sweat of his brow. Thus he was a self-made student. he had brilliant head on his young shoulders and in his body he had a heart filled with the fire of patriotism. With a new experience of rendering services he returned to his dear motherland in 1929.

His Service Towards His Country :
He had great desire to serve his country. He made up his mind to live and die for the country in 1921. He dedicated his life to the struggle which was being carried on fo the freedom of the country in 1930. In 1934 he became the Secretary of the Socialist Part. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru offered him the membership of the congress Working Committee in 1946, but he rejected it. When Pandit Nehru again insisted, after a few months, he joined Congress Committee along with Ram Manohar Lohia. It did not last for a long time and both of them left the Congress Working Committee. Later on in 1948, the Socialist Part got itself separated from the Congress. Shri Jayaprakash Narayan became its General Secretary. To its bad luck the party had to face a crushing defeat in the general elections of 1952.
His Conflict with Indira’s Government:
Once again the threw himself whole heartedly in the political development of the country. His sincere efforts created a great stir in the political atmosphere of the country. The Indira Government got alarmed. It decided curb down J.P.s movement. For unknown reason Mrs Indira Gandhi declared Emergency in the country on 25th June, 1975. She put the leaders of oppositions parties along with Shri Jayaprakash Narayan behind the prison bars. All the top leaders of all the opposition parties passed 18 months in jails under tortures. They were released from the jail one by one in December 1976 when Indira Gandhi declared General Election in the country. Shri Jayaprakash Narayan also came out of the jail but he had a shattered health.

Formation of Janata Party:
Having come out of the jail the great leaders of five opposite parties joined hands to become one. They decided to form a single part to contest the election against the powerful Congress Party. They named their party The Janata Part. Lok Nayak J.P. did this great work. The party carried vigorous propaganda against corrupt government of Indira and won the election.
Conclusion : (His Qualities) :
Shri Jayaprakash Narayan was a selfless worker. Once Pandi Nehru offered him the post of minister of the Union Cabinet but he did not accept it. He was really a true follower of Gandhian principles. He had the force of no desire for power. People called him king without crown. During Janata Part rule he enjoyed the esteem of the people of the whole country. He made all sorts of sacrifices but never claimed any reward for him. He was a symbol of light for the Janata Party.
