Who knows not that scientists’ desire for further knowledge is always unstable? They are never satisfied with their success. They were not content with their progress in the past, they are not at present and they would not be in the future. According to their faith in work, satisfaction is the sign of death of man’s efforts for progress. A true scientist is never satisfied with his achievements.
The spirit of discovery leads the scientists to the door of inventions. They invent new things one after the other. Their spirit of discovery makes them eager to present something new before the world. Today, scientists are the masters of the forces of nature. They are the monarchs of the land, the sea and the air. It is they who have reached the moon and still their spirit of adventure, is leading them to Mars. This shows that the spirit of querry is always alive in the palpitating hearts of our scientists. A scientists is always hungry for further knowledge. He is possessed with the desire to have all knowledge and all power. All the charms of the world will lose their significance on the day when the spirit of querry dies.
The history of American scientists is the record of their successful efforts. They have been trying very hard to find out the secrets of the heavenly bodies. For the last many years they have been reading literature about Mars and other planets. At last their unfailed and untired efforts bore fruit. They got success in sending the Viking No. I and No. II respectively in the months of July and September of 1976. It is really a great achievement for the scientists of America and modern age.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
Viking I: Viking I landed on Mars. It took rounds there and after a few days it sent certain photographs of Mars. It sent the soil of Mars also. Later on the experiments were made by these scientists in the labs to see whether there are any sign of life on Mars or not. By making experiments and by studying the photographs they had a very little hope of life there.
Viking II : The scientists of America sent Viking II also. It sent photographs of Mars. These photographs showed a desert terrace similar to the landing site of the earlier probe, Viking LA spokesman said all communication with both methods of Viking II were restored, and the first two pictures exhibited a shady surface strewn with boulders of various kinds, some edged and other round and sponge like in appearance.
“The pictures were transmitted successfully. They indicated that the main antenna on the orbiting section was again directed towards the earth and the communication problems were solved.” Viking II’s touch down was the second major success for the U.S. Space Programme. Viking II which set down in a valley called “Utopia” will be looking for confirmation of signals sent back by Viking I that microplopic forms of life may exist in the sticky, red Mars soil. Fog and ice were both present near the Utopia region. The scientists entertain a hope that there may be changes of life in the place where there is water. The photographs are being sent by and by. The experiments are still going on. The time will tell whether there is life or no life on Mars.
According to the news published in Nav Bharat Times dated 3rd of October, 1976, there is a very little or not the least hope of life on Mars. In the first two experiments on Mars the scientists have not found any sign of carbon elements. It is scientific fact that without carbon life is not possible. Rest depends upon the future.
