I daily dream of my beloved motherland. I wish it to be a richer, happier and healthier land to live in. I want it to be a veritable heaven on earth. I hope that within the next few years my country shall have made as much progress as to be the very land of my dreams.

It is difficult to predict the India of tomorrow or to make a forecast about the shape of things to come. Prophesies have no place in political life, and national life. But coming events cast their shadows before. Change is law of nature. So from the present political, military, economic and social set up we can foretell that India of tomorrow will be happier, richer and safer than it is today.
There is no doubt that we are free, but there is no glow of joy on our faces. Poverty, starvation, unemployment stare into our faces. Illiteracy, communal-pan, economic inequality, social injustice and narrow-mindedness are rampant today. Kashmir problem still remains unsolved and our relations with Pakistan and China are as strained as before. So India of today does not present a rosy picture.

But we should not be pessimists. Rome was not built in a day. Being an optimist, I often sit down in my leisure hours and dream of what this country will be a few years hence. We are quite confident that by 2000 most of our problems will be solved and our motherland will reach the pinnacle of glory and grandeur in every field. The country shall be thoroughly mechanized so that we shall have plenty of everything. India as I dream, shall be self-sufficient in all the basic needs of life such as food, shelter and clothing. People shall have equal opportunities economically, socially, politically and culturally.
By 2000 the face of the millions of villages in India will have been completely transformed. Our country shall have progressed in arts and sciences. Scholars from other lands will take pride in getting degrees from our universities. In science we shall at least be on par with foreign countries. Our scientists shall have all facilities and equipments for research. Multipurpose projects like the Bhakra Nangal and Damodar Valley Projects will provide enormous power to solve the irrigation problems of the Indian peasant. Extensive co-operative farming will replace small holdings. Latest scientific inventions in the field of agriculture will increase food production and relieve the farmer of his old poverty. There will be hospitals, schools, colleges and fine houses in every village.
Women shall have a prominent place in our society. They will be given a status of equality with men in every field. They will be no more puppets in the hands of men. They will be working side-by-side with men in law, medicine, engineering, civil services etc. Students will be well behaved and disciplined. They will not indulge in anti-social activities but will devote their time and energy to strengthen our country. Indian villages will have all amenities of life. The idea of a welfare state will have been realized in the real sense of term. India by 2000 will be very strong from the military point of view. All young men and women will have received military training. Latest war weapons will either be manufactured here or imported for defense. Her defense will be so strong that no nation will dare attack her.
To say the least, we will have anew heaven on earth. India of my dreams will be an ideal place to live. There will be an all round progress and prosperity. People will be mentally, morally, spiritually and physically better. Nepotism, favoritism, corruption and inefficiency which today are eating into the vitals of our society, will disappear. The common man in India will feel the glow of freedom.
