One fine morning some of my class mates decided to go on a boating trip in the nearby river. We set out from the hostel for the river. It took us about half an hour to reach there. The water was very shallow.
We hired a boat and took our seats in it. Prem was at the rudder while Puran and Satish started plying the ores. It was a pleasant time and we all began to enjoy. Some started singing while Satish began to play on the flute.
Before we got into the boat we had stuffed our bags with all sorts of eatables. We had mangoes, apples and packets of sweets. As soon as we were in the middle of the stream, we felt pangs of hunger. We, therefore, ate and sang. We were all in a hilarious mood. Each one of us had his turn at rowing. The boat sped on fast up stream at least for a mile. We anchored it on sandy part of the river to take some rest.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
Now began the down stream journey. We left the boat in the current of the river. It went on fast. While the boat was thus going, we felt a shock. The boat had struck against a rock. Some of us had to wade through the water and remove the obstacle. It was a small incident but it made us very careful. We rowed back to the bank safely.
It was still very fine. We, therefore, had some games. It was about sunset that we reached the hostel. Everyone was waiting anxiously for us, particularly the hostel superintendent. He was happy to see us back safe and sound. It was indeed a fine boating trip except for the little incident we had. How we wish to go on such like trips!
