Modern international transport takes place through ocean and as such ocean transport has occupied a significant position in foreign trade. It has brought different parts of the world closer. This type of transport operates on a natural track where man has to do nothing. There are two types of ocean transport like:
Coastal shipping: This type of transport is used for carrying goods from one place to another within the country. The transport by steam ship in the coastal areas is the best example of coastal shipping. It is used for carrying heavy and bulky traffic over a long distance.

Overseas Shipping: This type of transport is used for carrying goods from one country to another over the ocean. This type of transport uses vehicles like liners, tramps, cargo-liners and the tankers.
