The following are the broad advantages of motor transport:

i. Motor transport are more convenient for rapid and short distance service. These are most suited for transportation of fruits and vegetables which require quick transport service.

ii. Motor transport is cheaper in comparison to railway transport because motor vehicles do not require any permanent and fixed line over which it can run always.
iii. It acts as a feeder to the railway transport by serving rural areas where railways are not constructed.
The maintenance charges of motor vehicles are less in comparison to railways. The upkeep charges, driver’s wage and fuel of rails are more than motor vehicles.
iv. These are also best suited for country’s defense transport purposes where rails cannot reach.
