You must have used an umbrella on a rainy day. It has a metal frame with many spokes which gives the umbrella its shape. In the same way our body is supported by a frame from within called skeleton. The skeleton consists of bones of the skull, the backbone, ribs and limbs. Our skeleton contains a total of 206 bones. The functions of the skeletal system are:
-
It forms the rigid framework of the body and supports its weight.
-
It protects delicate internal organs like brain, spinal cord, eyes and lungs.
-
It helps in movements and locomotion.
