India is the second most populous country in the world after china. 16.7 percent of the world population lives in 2.4 percent of the world’s land area. Economic development in India has failed to maintain pace with population growth, Illiteracy, poverty, high birth rate, low death rate, immigration, early marriage, etc. are the main causes of overpopulation. It leads to various problems like unemployment, migration of people to the towns and cities, etc. The natural resources will soon get exhausted. Terrorism and increase in the rate of crime are also the result of population explosion. Effective steps should be undertaken by the Government to check population.
