Let us understand the SQL server 2005 installation error which displays a message “There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard”.

The SQLSetupNumber_ServerName_Core (local). log file is located in the following folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files. Number represents a number that increases for every installation of SQL Server 2005. The log file that has the largest number for Number in the file name is the log file for the most recent installation of SQL Server 2005.

Firstly, this type of error message is generated most probably when we try to install SQL Server 2005 from a network or shared computer (for example :-via Local Area Connection.) Secondly, when we copy the installation folder and files from the SQL Server installation CD to our computer hard disk and then run the setup file, the above error many appear. Thirdly, when some installation files of SQL Server 2005 are corrupted or affected by Virus the above error message will appear. Therefore the right solution for eradicating the error is as follows:-
Solution:
I. Don’t install SQL Server 2005 from a network or shared computer (for example via LAN). If you are still installing SQL Server 2005 from shared network then make sure that the two main folders (a) Servers (b) Tools are under the same level of a folder or the root folder of a drive. The names of these folders must be exactly Servers and Tools.
II. When we copy all the installation folders and files of SQL Server 2005 to our hard disk we must make sure that the show all hidden file option is on/active in our windows operating system.
We must make sure that our SQL Server CD or any of its files are not corrupted.
III. Last but not the least, we must also make sure that the SQL Server 2005 installation files and folders are not affected by any kind of virus.
