Differentiate Public Carrier and private Carrier.
A carrier other than the government which carry goods as a business for money without discrimination of different consignors is known as a public carrier. A carrier who is not engaged in regular business for money but occasionally carries goods is termed as a private carrier. The following are the points of differences between a public carrier and private carrier:
Public Carrier
- It is a common carrier engaged in regular business of carriage of goods.
- It undertakes carriage of goods for hire or reward.
- It may carry goods or passengers.
- It is governed by the terms and conditions of the party and the carrier.

- It is a casual business of carrying goods from one place to another.
- It may not undertake carriage of goods by hire or reward. It may be done gratuitously.
- It carries goods only.
- It is governed by the common carrier act, 1865.
