To say that “the future will take care of itself” is as ridiculous as taking a long journey without enough food, money and provisions and hoping for the best! We must always plant for the future. Looking heard helps us to foresee the obstacles and problems that we many come across in the future. The saying, “look before you leap” is an apt one for all of use to follow.

We should not only plan our own lives but think of the future of others around us. All famous inventors, scientists, explorers, reformers and statesmen have worked for the future of their fellow men. They have done things for the benefit of millions of people. They have made plans and catered for future generations as well as their own. Men of vision do not confine their activities to the present day but look well ahead into the distant future.
Jamshedji Tata, the great Indian industrialist, had a dream. He foresaw that India must develop industrially in order to progress. With this vision, he built the township of Jamshedpur which is now a large industrial city. More than seventy years ago, Jamshedji laid the foundations for a strong industrial base in this country. Soon, many industries and industrial towns sprang up in India.

Jamshedji’s foresight helped India to lessen her dependence on her agriculture produce. We are now able to produce machinery and enough essential goods to meet our requirements. Many of our goods are exported to other countries. With the money we earn from exports we are able to purchase scare commodities such as oils.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a man of great foresight and vision. He was the first Home Minister of Independent India. He planned for a prosperous and progressive nation.
For centuries, India had been divided into small kingdom and princely states. Each kingdom had its separate ruler, government and army. And each kingdom was concerned solely with its own wellbeing.
Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel realized the importance and necessity of a united India. He realized that we cannot progress as a nation if we were divided into small, independent kingdoms. He chalked out a policy whereby princely states were abolished and the whole country was to be administered by a Central government. The princes were given handsome allowances and compensation for having to give up their kingdoms.

Most people do not think of a better future for mankind. They think only for themselves. They waste their time and energy in activities which are short-lived and of little use. At the most they plan for the immediate future rather than the distant future and think for their immediate neighborhood rather than of their nation or the larger world.
If you wish to be a scholar, now is the time to begin preparing for it. If you wish to be an engineer or a doctor you must start by laying a strong foundation for a good future. You must plan your future and then work towards it. You have to work towards a definite future, only then will be successful.
