The Shimla Agreement was reached between the then Pakistan President Zulfiqur Ali Bhutto and the then Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi on July 2, 1972.
As per the agreement, India and Pakistan resolved to put ends to the conflict and confrontation between the two countries and work for the promotion of friendly and harmonious relationship and the establishment of durable peace in the subcontinent so that both the countries might henceforth devote their resources and energies to the task of advancing the welfare of the people.
